The best non-alcoholic beer to bring on those fall feels

There’s just something about fall. From changing colours to cooler temps and copious amounts of comfort food––it just hits different. While you’re digging out your favourite cozy sweater, your local craft breweries are busy preparing a selection sips featuring the best of the fall harvest.

At Sober Carpenter, our beers are brewed according to current harvests. This time of year, we’re deep into toastier and roastier dark beers with a pronounced bitterness, spiciness or smokiness.

HOW WE BREW OUR NON-ALCOHOLIC DARK BEER

In general, the best non-alcoholic dark beers (red, black, amber) possess noticeable roast characteristics ranging from chocolate and coffee to acrid and ashy. The reason is simple: Dark beer is made using dark roasted grains, like barley. Similar to coffee beans, when grains are charred, they undergo an incredible transformation that impacts not only the flavor but the texture and style of the brew.

IS DARK BEER ALWAYS BITTER?

The simple answer is no. Dark beer can be very light and smooth on the palate––it just comes down to the extent of the roast. The darker the roast, the more bitter the beer.

Grab a pint of dark beer and pair it with fall-worthy comfort food like smoked meat, braised red meat, turkey, or even grilled sausages. We like to crack a can of our no-alcohol dark beer with a spicy plate of curry––the flavour combination is chef’s kiss.
